Dissent's third release, Swap Meet Seers, clearly demonstrates a positive growth cycle for dissent. Producer and composer Gregory Howe draws from many musical directions to create a diverse yet concise sound which lands somewhere between hip hop, soul, pop, alternative, and downtempo.

Often compared to a young Astrude Gilberto, vocalist Nathalie Sanchez follows up her debut on dissent's Bleeding Together with outstanding performances on "Where Lost Is Found" and "Take My Hand." Adding to the world flavor of the record, Nathalie also sings two songs in French, her native language, including the single "Je Me Souviens," which is dedicated to her French-Canadian upbringing.

Strongly contributing to the record are Variable Unit's bassist Matt Montgomery, returning Keyboardist Matt Cunitz, and drummer/synth player Chris Krotky.

With Swap Meet Seers, dissent creates timeless music that combines spirit and innovation, current sounds with soul roots.

dissent // Swap Meet Seers

URB - April 2005 - 4 Stars (PDF)

File dissent under uncategorical. The 10-piece* Bay Area band synthesizes strings, chords, horns, drums, keys and just about every other sound known to man (and woman) into a sonically layered melt whose artistry is as stupefying as it is enjoyable."

Dissent plays like jazz for the electronica generation, and their thirt outing, Swap Meet Seers, is arguably their most organically driven album to date. The opener, " Time Trekker," boldly goes into territory rarely charted by live acts, harboring a bassline that's ass brawny as they come.

French Canadian vocalist Nathalie Sanchez blesses four tracks with elegance, including two (" Je Me Souviens" and "L'ame Celeste") in her native tongue, though "Where Lost Is Found" may qualify as her highlight.

With a distinctive and crisp sound that drifts mostly through down-tempo soundscapes, dissent will aptly bridge the gap between Zero 7 and DJ Cam in any worthy set list. (Kevin Polowy)
