 Trumpet and Tuba, Variable Unit // Seven Grain Jon Birdsong shows his mastery of the trumpet and tuba, adding a creative, unmistakable brass voice within the group. Proudly displaying the influence of New Orleans jambalaya, he provides an epic arrangement for "Jumentous" and the brass breakdown in "Pyramid Scheme." Birdsong performs regularly with Beck, Beth Orton, and Victoria Williams, and is the founding member of the Bay Area horn ensemble, Brass Monkey. Jon Birdsong is both melodius and explorational. Jon's colorful Coronet conjures up an epic ending for Jumentous and then guides a misdirectional breakdown in Pyramid Scheme. His carnavalesque and burlesque feel that spawn from his love of New Orleans Jumblaya style brass radiates in his writting and soloing.
